Police arrest suspected killer of business tycoon in Lokoja, 27 others

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Mr Ede Ayuba Ekpeji says the Command has arrested one of the suspected killers of a business tycoon in Lokoja who owned Chuks Super market in Lokoja, Mr Nicholas Ofodile.

Duaglobalnews recalls that Ofodile was killed by armed robbers on Lokoja-Abuja road about two months ago.

He was initially believed to have been killed by kidnappers on the fateful day on Lokoja-Abuja road.

The Commissioner said the suspect, Vincent Omogor, was among suspects arrested for Kidnapping ritual and other criminal activities totalling 28 apprehended in the state in recent time.

According to the police boss, Omogor was arrested through the relentless efforts of the operatives of the command in unraveling the perpetrators of the henious crime.

Ekpeji said:” Intelligence driven was embarked upon by SARS operatives, in synergy with the vigilante group in Orehi which led to the arrest of one of the perpetrators,Vince Omogor.

“The suspect confessed and mentioned his other cohorts who are still at large ,that carried out the dastardly act.

Investigation into the case is ongoing.”

Speaking with Journalists, Omogor said that Ofodile was killed by one of his boys he housed and is working in his super market, simply known as “chairman.”

Omogor said that chairman told him that, he (chairman), shot and killed Ofodile because the business tycoon failed to pay his salary before month end to enable him take care of his sick father.

He added chairman had earlier robbed Ofodile before killing him.

According to Omogor, chairman’s father eventually died as a result of the sickness.

“This is my first attempt at committing this kind of crime

“Chairman told me that his Oga, offended him and when his Oga told him he would be traveling to Abuja tomorrow, he asked me to join him in robbing him on the way and that he will kill him in the process.

” I advised chairman not to kill his Oga, but he said he must kill him to revenge what he did to him.”

The online publication reports that items recovered from the suspect include: suspected human skull,one locally made single barrel gun, one master key used in opening lorries and one locally made pistol.

Others are: complete military camouflage with a booth shoe,one cartridge, one Pietro Berretta pistol and 10 rounds of 9 mm live ammunition among others.

The police boss said the command had adopted comprehensive crime prevention and control strategies, coupled with intensive patrol among others measures to stem the tide of crime in the area.

” The command continues to adopt common problem solving strategic for effective result on community policy which has improved public confidence resulting in public spirited individuals coming forward to give or provide valuable information on criminal elements and their activities.”

He commended the state government, members of the public and the media for effective synergy with the command in the concerted to curb crime and criminality in the state.
