Kogi state House of Assembly has called on the state government to immortalize the name of the first female combat helicopter pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile.
Duaglobalnews recalls that Arotile, 24 years and second in the line of five children of her parents, died as a result of an auto accident at Airforce base in Kaduna on July 14.
A colleague of the deceased, who saw her reversed her car with the intention of giving her a ride but in the process, hit her which led to her death, according to sources.
Jilani Ooumu, a member representing Ijumu Constituency in the Assembly made the call in his oral motion he moved during the plenary on Thursday.
Olumo said the deceased pilot, an indigene of Iffe-Ijumu in the state, had contributed her quota to the ongoing fight against insecurity in the country.
He noted that her death was painful and a great loss to the State, pointing out that, immortalizing her was a reward for hard work and dedication to protection of the Nation’s territorial integrity.
The lawmaker prayed God to grant the family and Nigerian Air Force the grace to bear the loss.
Seconding the motion, the member representing Lokoja One Umar Tenimu, described the motion as timely in view of the efforts of the Late Pilot to the nation’s security.
The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole in his ruling, called on the State Government to urgently immortalize the young icon.
A minute silent was, therefore, observed in honour of the Late Combatant helicopter pilot.
The online publication reports that the family residence of the deceased has continued to witness the presence of sympathizers trooping in to condole the family over the tragic loss.
Family members in lokoja are not just expressing shock over the loss of one of their own, but also paying glowing tribute to the late Tolu’s intellectual prowess, moral etiquette, high religious inclination but also, her valued contribution to the fight against insurgents in the country.
They, however, called on the military to carryout a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to their beloved daughter’s death.
