Members of the ABU Alumni Association, Kogi State branch,have unanimously extended the tenure of the branch’s executive committee to November 2026, citing the leadership’s visible achievements and commitment to the growth of the association despite limited resources.
Our correspondent reports that members decision during the association’s monthly general meeting held on Thursday at MBA Hall in Lokoja, where they also resolved to strengthen participation in branch activities and improve communication among members.
The meeting, which began at about 4:20 p.m. with an opening prayer by Dr. Bawa Dangana, was presided over by the Chairman, Engr. Abdulsalam Muhammad Sagir.
In his opening remarks, Sagir commended members for their commitment to the association and urged them to boost efforts in that regard.
The Secretary of the branch, Yahaya Aminu Maihankuri, presented a detailed report highlighting the administration, activities, achievements, challenges and recommendations of the association.
Members described the report as comprehensive, factual and insightful.
A motion for the adoption of the report was moved by Ustaz Umar Uthman Ogbo and seconded by Hon. Garba Bako before it was unanimously adopted.
The meeting, however, deferred the presentation of the Financial Secretary’s report as well as the Gala Night and Awards Ceremony Committee’s report until the next general meeting.
In a major resolution, members passed a vote of confidence on the current executive committee, mandating it to continue piloting the affairs of the branch until November 2026.
The association also resolved that the Chairman and the Secretary would represent the Kogi State branch at the forthcoming National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting scheduled to hold in Kaduna on May 12, 2026, with a mandate to present the branch’s position on issues to be discussed at the meeting.
During the Any Other Business session, members commended the executive committee for what they described as commendable achievements recorded under challenging circumstances.
They also urged members to be more active in association programmes and ensure regular payment of monthly dues.
To improve information dissemination, the meeting advised the executive committee to complement WhatsApp notifications with text messages when sending notices of meetings.
In his closing remarks, the Chairman stressed the need for unity, greater commitment and prompt payment of dues to sustain the progress of the association.
The meeting ended at about 5:43 p.m. following a motion for adjournment moved by Abdul Malik Ohikura Abbas and seconded by Shiru Abdullahi, while Elder Moses Tutu offered the closing prayer.
