President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to various countries and international missions, marking a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence across the globe.
The appointments comprise 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations had earlier been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December.
Among the prominent non-career envoys assigned to strategic countries are Reno Omokri to Mexico, Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, and Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Others include Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada, Ita Enang to South Africa, Victor Ikpeazu to Spain, and Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China.
Also on the list are Nora Ladi Daduut to South Korea, Ayodele Oke to France, Aminu Dalhatu to the United Kingdom, and Grace Bent to Togo.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday in Abuja,the postings form part of the administration’s efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign missions for improved diplomatic engagement and national interest.
Onanuga disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, while France has approved Ambassador Ayo Oke as Nigeria’s envoy to Paris.
He added that the ministry has transmitted the nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries, requesting agrément in line with established diplomatic procedures.
He noted that President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence an induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their deployment to their respective missions.
The new postings are expected to reinforce Nigeria’s diplomatic outreach, promote bilateral cooperation, and advance the country’s economic and strategic interests across continents.
