The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday played a video recording of President Bola Tinubu’s speech delivered on August 26, 2025, during his state visit to Brazil, as part of evidence to substantiate its cyberstalking charge against activist Omoyele Sowore.
Our correspondent reports that the video was played in open court as counsel to the DSS, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, led the first prosecution witness (PW-1), Cyril Nosike,an operative of the service,in evidence before Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
In addition to the video, the prosecution tendered messages allegedly posted by Sowore on his X (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook) handles, in which he reportedly referred to the President as a “criminal.”
The DSS also presented documents detailing public reactions to the posts, alongside a certificate of compliance.
Justice Umar admitted the exhibits in evidence after defence counsel, Marshal Abubakar, reserved his objection, indicating it would be addressed during final written submissions.
Following the evidence-in-chief of the PW-1, Abubakar requested an adjournment to allow the defence time to study the witness’s statement and other documents earlier served on them and the court granted the request.
Justice Umar subsequently adjourned the matter to January 27 for the cross-examination of the PW-1 and continuation of hearing.
Sowore is the sole defendant in the amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, filed on December 5.
In the original charge, Sowore, X Inc. (formerly Twitter), and Meta Inc. (Facebook) were listed as first, second, and third defendants respectively.
However, the amended charge dropped the names of the two technology companies, leaving Sowore as the only defendant.
