The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged ongoing Quality of Service (QoS) challenges affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja, following widespread service disruptions linked to an interruption in diesel supply to critical network infrastructure.
The Commission disclosed that the service degradation, which has affected the quality of experience of subscribers, was caused by disruptions to diesel supplies powering base stations operated by IHS Nigeria Limited, a major colocation company that provides power support for Airtel and MTN facilities in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the NCC, the disruption arose from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which interfered with the supply of diesel to telecom sites, resulting in outages across parts of Abuja where affected base stations could not operate optimally.
In response to the situation, the NCC said it has intensified collaboration with key stakeholders and licensed operators to urgently address the challenges and restore seamless telecommunications services, emphasizing that reliable power supply remains critical to sustaining optimal telecom services nationwide.
“The NCC is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to resolve the diesel supply bottlenecks affecting critical telecommunications infrastructure,” the Commission stated, urging all parties to work together to swiftly remove obstacles arising from the supply disruption.
The regulatory body further noted that it is facilitating dialogue between impacted service providers, infrastructure companies, and other stakeholders to explore both immediate and sustainable solutions that will prevent a recurrence of similar disruptions in the future.
Reaffirming its regulatory mandate, the NCC stressed its commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the growth, stability, and sustainability of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, despite the current challenges.
The Commission, in statement signed by Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Head of Public Affairs at the NCC in Abuja and dated December 12, 2025, assured subscribers that it is closely managing the situation and will continue to keep the public informed on progress toward the full restoration of services in Abuja.
It also appealed to subscribers for patience and understanding while efforts are being intensified to normalize service delivery.
