Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has celebrated its 63rd anniversary with deep appreciation for its distinguished alumni whose contributions continue to shape national, regional, and global development.
This is contained in a statement
from the Public Affairs Directorate Office of Vice-Chancellor of the university with a copy available to The Reporters in Lokoja on Tuesday.
At the modest ceremony held on October 4, 2025, the university acknowledged the remarkable achievements of its former students, including the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, and several others who have left indelible marks in various fields.
Also recognised were former Chief Justices of Nigeria, governors, ministers, legislators, captains of industry, and notable traditional rulers — all products of the prestigious institution.
Speaking at a press conference to mark the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, described ABU’s alumni as shining examples of the university’s enduring legacy.
“We are proud of our alumni who continue to distinguish themselves nationally, regionally, and globally. In particular, we commend the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajuddeen Abbas, for his consistent support for the university,” Prof. Ahmed said.
He also lauded the governors of Kaduna, Zamfara, and Katsina states, all of whom are alumni, for their continued partnership and goodwill toward their alma mater.
While expressing gratitude to the alumni community for their unwavering support, Prof. Ahmed urged them to take greater ownership of the university’s future.
“I must challenge our alumni community. The Sardauna gave you the opportunity; now it is time to give back. You have the resources, the talent, and the strategic positions to change the narrative of ABU. What is needed is the will,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor called on ABU graduates across the world to contribute to the university’s growth through endowment funds, annual giving, and generous donations, ensuring that the institution continues to thrive for generations to come.
