Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has been honoured with the Golden Award of Excellence for Education and Teachers’ Friendliness by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
The award was presented during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, on Sunday.
Unubi Emmanuel, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, in a statement he signed and a copy available to The Reporters in Lokoja on Monday,said the award recognizes Governor Ododo’s outstanding contributions to teachers’ welfare and his administration’s strides in developing the education sector in the state.
According to him,the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu, received the award on behalf of the governor amid cheers and applause from members of the teachers’ union, who lauded Ododo’s dedication to improving the teaching profession and raising educational standards in Kogi State.
The NUT described the award as a clear recognition of Governor Ododo’s steadfast commitment to enhancing the welfare of teachers and his administration’s substantial investments in the education sector.
Observers say the honour will further inspire the Kogi State Government to sustain and deepen its ongoing reforms in education and continue prioritizing the welfare of teachers,the key drivers of knowledge and development.
Emmanuel added that the deputy governor was accompanied to the event by key government officials and members of the State House of Assemby including the Deputy Majority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmodu Shehu Seidu; Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Hilary Ojoma Egwudah.
Commissioners,Hon. Wemi Jones (Education), Hon. Timothy Ojoma (Agriculture), Hon. Atulukwu Victor Levi (Transport), Dr. Helen Adeniyi (Innovation, Science and Technology), and Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf (Works) were not left out.
Also in attendance were former member representing Idah Federal Constituency, Hon. Inah Hussein; former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Omebije; Director-General, Kogi Community Watch and Ancillary Matters, Hon. Muhammed Nasiru Alfa; Director-General among others.
