6 Brigade Nigerian Army,in a statement he signed and a copy available to The Reporters on Wednesday said the operation, carried out under OPERATION LAFIYA NAKOWA, took place on Sunday at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area.

He said acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted the suspects, who were clad in mobile police uniforms, and discovered the vehicles laden with substances suspected to be cannabis.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were not serving policemen. One of the men, identified as Monday George, a 71-year-old dismissed Police ASP, and Ezeugo Destiny Uche, 41, were apprehended on the spot,he added .

“The occupants of the second Hilux abandoned the vehicle and fled when they sighted the troops.

“The cannabis, traced to have been loaded in Akure, Ondo State, was being transported to Adamawa State before the interception. In total, 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. The suspects and the seized exhibits have since been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution,” he said.

Commending the successful joint operation, the Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the synergy between troops and NDLEA operatives, stressing that Taraba would remain unsafe for criminals and drug traffickers.

The General called on members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen the fight against crime.
