The Police Command in Edo State has arrested Theophilus Osazuwa, a man accused of fatally assaulting his four-year-old son, in what authorities suspect was a drug-fueled episode.

Our correspondent gathered that the tragic incident occurred at Osazuwa’s residence in Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road, Benin City, around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to police reports, Osazuwa returned home and fell into a violent trance, during which he shouted, “Holy Ghost fire,” before grabbing his son, Testimony Osazuwa, and slamming him against a wall.

The Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO, for the Police Command in the state, Moses Yamu, confirmed the horrifying details.

He said: “The suspect, under the influence of illicit substances, acted in a frenzied state.

“Despite attempts to save the boy’s life, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.”

Police authorities revealed that Osazuwa had a known history of drug abuse, particularly substances like “ice”, adding that preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect’s actions were heavily influenced by his drug dependency.

The Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, condemned the incident and to warned the public, especially young people, about the dangers of illicit drug use, emphasizing its devastating effects on individuals, families, and society.

The suspect is in custody as investigations continue, with the police vowing to ensure justice is served.
