The Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. John Urah Ikani, has flagged off the grading of the Ajedimekwu-Ojogba-Okate-Abocho road.

In a statement signed by one.Faruna Commander Atogijo, in Dekina, the project aimed to ease movement for farmers and villagers in the rural area.

He quoted the chairman as directing that laterite be applied to ensure the road remains passable, even in the rainy season.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ikani said his administration has spent “millions of naira” to repair the council’s earth-moving equipment to tackle the poor road network across the Local Government Area.

“We have worked hard to revive our graders, tippers, and other machinery because good roads are crucial for our people. “Dekina is an agrarian community, and bad roads have made it hard for our farmers to take their goods to market. That era is over. This initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter for us,”he said.

The chairman called on the Local Government’s Department of Works to deliver quality work, emphasizing that the road would boost agricultural and commercial activities.

“Our farmers should no longer suffer losses because of bad roads. Our market women must not sleep by the roadside anymore. With the yuletide season approaching, we want our roads ready for visitors coming to celebrate in their hometowns. We owe our people this much,” he added.

Hon. Ikani assured residents that more rural roads would soon be graded and thanked the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his support in prioritizing development in Dekina.
