The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of Abubakar Abdulsalami University of Agriculture and Climate Action in Mokwa, Niger State.
This specialized institution, focused on agriculture, agro-business, and climate-related studies, will become Nigeria’s 277th university and the 65th state-owned institution when fully operational.
Speaking at the presentation of the certificate of recognition to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, the Pro-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University (AKU), Professor Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, expressed optimism about the newly established university.
He emphasized its potential to address the educational and career aspirations of Nigerlites, providing opportunities for growth and development within the state.
Professor Kuta Yahaya further stressed the broader significance of the university, noting its capacity to meet the educational and economic needs of the nation.
He praised the initiative as a forward-thinking step toward enhancing the academic and professional landscape of Nigeria.
Governor Bago, in his response, commended Professor Kuta Yahaya for his dedication to advancing education in the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector to meet present and future demands.
Our correspondent reports that the new university marks Niger State’s third state-owned institution, joining Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai—founded by late Governor Abdulkadir Kure—and Abdulkadir Kure University (AKU), Minna, which was rebranded from the University of Education, less than two years ago.
Abubakar Abdulsalami University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, is a product of the current administration’s vision, spearheaded by Professor Kuta, who achieved its establishment in under two years.
