The Vice-Chancellor of the College of Chaplaincy & Social Sciences, Nigeria, Prof. Faith Nana, has called on the Federal Government to issue more licenses to online institutions to enhance access to education nationwide.
Prof. Nana made this appeal during his address at the college’s 6th Convocation Ceremony held on Wednesday in Ota.
The institution, affiliated with the African American University, Porto-Novo, and accredited by the American Council of Training & Development, graduated 55 students across Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs for the 2023/2024 academic session.
He emphasized the need for flexible educational opportunities, stating that global governments are exploring the easiest ways to encourage learning. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning proved that education could be made possible even in challenging times,” Nana noted.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the Federal Ministry of Education to simplify the registration process for online institutions, allowing them to gradually introduce degree programs.
“Granting approval to new online institutions will significantly boost the nation’s education system,” he added.
In her inaugural speech as the newly installed Chancellor, Prof. Kehinde Osoba, expressed her joy at being the first honorary Chancellor of the college.
“Accepting this responsibility reflects my commitment to service and the development of humanity,” she stated.
Osoba pledged to prioritize the college’s infrastructural development and complete ongoing projects.
She also committed to developing a strategic action plan and engaging with relevant stakeholders on behalf of the institution.
The event concluded with the induction of 55 graduates into the Alumni Association and the formal inauguration of the college’s first Chancellor.
