The Police Commissioner in Kwara State, north central Nigeria,CP Victor Olaiya, has advised key leaders of various transportation unions in the state to maintain peace sequel to the strike they dragged on Thursday over the hike in pump price of fuel in the country.
The Police boss gave the advice in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for the Police Command in the state, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi in Ilorin and a copy made available to The Reporters on Sunday.
The Police image maker added that representatives from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) attended the meeting which took place at the Command’s headquarters on September 6.2024.
Others, she further disclosed, include the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), CP Olaiya, accompanied by Alhaji Aliyu Muyideen, and Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Kwara State Governor, who also called for calm.
DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi said the strike, which began on September 5, prompted the dialogue at the command headquarters to address growing tensions.
She quoted CP Olaiya as emphasizing Kwara State’s reputation for peace and assured the unions that,the Federal Government is actively working on solutions to the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.
The Police boss,the PPRO said, encouraged the unions to express their concerns through their leaders and reassured them of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to addressing their issues.
“The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to uphold peace and security within the state,” the PPRO further revealed.
