Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, National President of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), inaugurated a new transit camp and skills acquisition centre in Lagos on Thursday.
At the event in Apapa, Adeniyi, who is also the wife of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Bashir Adeniyi, highlighted that the inauguration marks a new era for the association. She explained that the facilities are intended to support the empowerment and welfare of COWA members.
Adeniyi underscored COWA’s dedication to improving the lives of customs officers’ families and the broader community. She emphasized the association’s mission to create a supportive environment and offer growth opportunities for the wives of customs officers.
She encouraged members to connect with each other, build lasting friendships, and take advantage of the training and development opportunities provided by COWA. Adeniyi also emphasized the association’s role in delivering social, economic, and emotional support to its members and their families.
The COWA President called for collective effort and unity in driving change and urged members to strive towards their dreams. “Together, let us break down barriers, challenge the status quo, and pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous society. The power to create change lies within each of us. Let us unleash our collective potential and make a lasting impact,” she said.
Adeniyi urged members to embrace their roles as change agents, emphasizing their potential to positively influence society. “Together, we can build stronger families, stronger communities, and a brighter future,” she added.
Mrs. Funso Olomu, wife of the Apapa Customs Controller and Chairperson of COWA’s Apapa Chapter, praised the transit camp as a testament to the association’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for its members. She noted that the association had actively trained and empowered its members, including supporting widows.
“Today, 20 members were empowered: three successful businesswomen received N200,000 each; ten outstanding fashion designers were given sewing machines and pressing irons; and four trained make-up artists received full kits and equipment. These initiatives embody hope, resilience, and the promise of a better tomorrow,” Olomu said.
Olomu expressed gratitude to COWA’s national leadership and the Area Command management for their cooperation and support in making these achievements possible.
Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Apapa Customs Controller, commended COWA’s initiatives under Mrs. Adeniyi’s leadership. He praised the association’s positive impact on the customs community and beyond, noting that COWA’s efforts have enhanced support for widows, fostered skills acquisition, and promoted a sense of belonging.
He assured that the new facilities would be well-utilized and make a significant impact.
