The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun has pledged to prosecute any drunk driver involved in hit-and-run incidents that result in pedestrian injuries.

Mr. Akinwumi Fasakin, the FRSC Ogun Sector Commander, stated on Sunday in Ota, in Ogun State, South West Nigeria, that drunk driving would not be tolerated in the state.

His remarks followed an incident where a drunk driver struck two pedestrians in the Epe area of Lagos State on Saturday.

Fasakin explained that the hit-and-run driver, who had previously caused fatalities along the Sagamu axis, was identified and tracked, using the vehicle’s registration number, KJA635HY.

The driver or owner of the vehicle has been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force.

“The FRSC is issuing a stern warning to drivers engaged in drunk driving. Those who test positive in sobriety tests will be apprehended and prosecuted,” Fasakin said.

He said that patrol teams had been deployed to conduct random checks on drivers in the state and urged motorists to avoid drinking and driving, as well as excessive speeding, to prevent unnecessary loss of life.
