Mr. Hassan Isyaka Ibori, a resident of Lafia-Obessa community in Adavi LGA, Kogi State, is appealing for assistance in caring for his newborn twin daughters after his wife tragically passed away shortly after childbirth.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on June 2, 2024, at a private hospital in Anyone community. Hassan’s wife, Nana Hawa Ibori, delivered the twins successfully at 7 am but sadly passed away just an hour later due to complications.
Speaking to our reporter amidst tears, Hassan recounted the painful experience: “I rushed my wife to the hospital around 4 am when she went into labor. She delivered two beautiful girls, and we were overjoyed. But everything changed so quickly when she started complaining of severe stomach pain after delivery. Despite medical attention, she passed away within an hour.”
Hassan, a young farmer whose livelihood has been impacted by recent challenges, expressed his struggle to provide for his children: “I have been relying on farming to support my family, but our crops have been consistently destroyed by Fulani herdsmen for the past two years, leaving us with little harvest. Since my wife’s death, it has been incredibly difficult to feed both the twins and my other children.”
Desperate for support, Hassan appealed to the Kogi State government, the Governor’s wife, and well-meaning individuals for assistance: “I have used up all my savings in caring for my babies. I plead with the Ministry of Women Affairs and our Governor’s wife, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, to come to my aid. Any help to ensure these twins are well taken care of would be a lifesaver.”
Despite the challenges, Hassan expressed gratitude for the support received from his community thus far.
