The management of the Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens’ Rights Commission,PDCRC, has commenced sensitization of the grassroots in the state make use free legal services being offered by the Commission for the poor, vulnerable and indigent residents in the state.
In actualizing the task, the acting Director General of PFCRC, Brr.Musa Idris Onogo,led a team of law officers of the commission on a courtesy visit to HRM, Mathew Opaluwa,the Attah Igala in Idah.
The acting DG,who expressed deep gratitude to Attah Igala for the privilege of meeting him within within a short notice,said PDCRC was established by the Kogi State Government in 2018.
According to him, the mandate of the commission include to render free legal services, particularly to the disadvantaged, Indigent and vulnerable residents.
Barr.Onogo reiterated that persons who reside in the state who cannot afford the services of a private legal practitioner are at liberty to approach the commission for free legal representation and other legal services.
The acting DG stated that the Commission had the power to promote,protect and preserve the fundamental rights of residents in the state, including women and children.
Barr.Onogo also told the Attah Igala that the commission had a department, known as the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), where matters are resolved expeditiously due to the rigors of conventional courts.
He noted that many residents of the state were yet to be aware of the existence of PDCRC and its activities, hence the need to create awareness at the grassroots through critical stakeholders such as traditional institutions.
He,therefore, solicited the partnership and support of the Attah Igala in the publicity of the commission’s activities for the benefit of the people within his domain and the state in general.
Responding, the Attah Igala, who is also the President, Kogi State Traditional Council of Chiefs, assured the acting DG that he would sensitize his people and invite the commission to a meeting, for more awareness creation and sensitization on the activities of the commission.
This ,the traditional ruler said would be for the benefit of his people.
