Traders at the post office have resolved to make meaningful communication to the philosophy behind”Keep Kogi Clean ” being championed by the Ododo-led administration.
Investigation by our correspondent on Friday in Lokoja revealed that traders in the area have made it a call to duty to clean the gutters and clear all their surroundings of debris,an activity they always execute every two weeks.
The essence, the online publication gathered is to avoid blocking of gutter which is one of the major causes of floods.
Reacting to the development in an an interview with The Reporters,the Executive Director, Conscience For Human Rights &,Conflict Resolution,CHRCR, Com.Idris Miliki, commended the traders for making positive impact in the environment condition of kogi state, especially Lokoja,the state capital.
He also praised the traders for imbibing the culture of discipline and adherence to environmental laws in their business and called on other business groups to emulate them.
The Reporters recalls that more than half of the 21 local government areas of kogi state were submerged by floods in 2012 and 2022 with collosal loss of houses,farmlands and other infrastructure,the cost of which ran into billions of naira.
Some people also lost their lives during the two periods under review.
Experts trace one of the prominent causes of the floods to blockage of water channels and gutters which they argue usually prevents free flow of water, during raining season,into the River Niger and Benue.
