The Old Boys Association of St John’s College Fugar, Edo State, has begun plans to give back to the School by launching a N100 million project fund for its upliftment.
To this end, a Reunion Meeting is scheduled to be held from 17th to 18th November, 2023 in Lagos.
The National President of SJCOBA, Mr Ignatius Aigbokhaode, says in a statement that the problems confronting the school are diverse and varied, hence the rescue mission.
“All efforts to make the government address these appalling situations have so far failed”, he noted.
Mr Aigbokhaode listed the major problems for intervention to include, Decaying or absence of required learning facilities; Poor hostel accommodation/facilities; lack of qualified teaching staff; Inadequate funding by the State government.
” To keep the School afloat, we need to as a matter of urgency carry out massive renovation of all Classrooms; Laboratories; Staff Quarters and Student’s Hostels; Provision of Solar Energy to light up the entire school compound”, Aigbokhaode explained.
He assured that by fixing all these, the school is expected to become attractive for learning and teaching, thereby restoring its lost glory and pride of place.
On his part, the Chairman of Reunion Planning Committee, Dr Jay Samuel, said the N100 million school project fund will go a long way to sustain and maintain the Standard it is known for in Edo State.
He appealed to all Old Boys of St John’s College, Fugar and their friends and associates to support through the St John’s College Fugar Old Boys Association Account, Zenith Bank, 1015309926.
Our Correspondent reports that the last funding project embarked upon under, “Project Dry Bones Must Rise Again”, was expended to build perimeter fencing and some interventions which resulted in an astronomical increase in the Students population.
It is worth noting that the school had produced prominent personalities in the areas of Education, Politics and Governance, Medicine and Engineering as well as Journalism, who are contributing to the development of the Society.
