COVID-19: Tambuwal arrests 8 suspects for violating ban on inter-state travel

The fight against Coronavrus in Nigeria hots up with some state governors taking personal efforts to ensure the success of the fight.

Few day ago, the Governor of Cross River, Prof. Ben Ayade spent a night at Calabar-Itu border to check movement of people to the state, to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Report from Sokoto State said that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal personally arrested eight suspects for violating the ban on inter-state travels in the state.

The Nigeria Police confirmed the incidence with a promise to prosecute the suspects for violating the subsisting ban on inter-state travels in Sokoto state.

Duaglobalnews reports that the state government ordered the ban to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

The online gathered that Tambuwal arrested the suspects while on his way from Tureta Local Government Area back to Sokoto,the state capital.

A reliable source said that the governor effected the arrest when his entourage discovered that the vehicle, a commercial transporter, was operating in violation of inter-state travels restriction.

The governor was said to have immediately arrested the driver of the vehicle and his alleged co-offenders and handed them over to the police for investigation.

Governor Tambuwal did not his assignment in this regard as he also urged the police to ensure that the suspects were made to face the wrath of the law, after a thorough investigation.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani Kaoje, said that the Police Command had commenced investigation into the matter with a view to prosecuting the suspects in court.
