Yuletide:2 rescuers drown in Lagos

In their attempt to save life, two rescuers have drowned at the Baracuda beach in Abraham Adesanya area, Ajah Lagos State.

Mr.Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), disclosed the bad news on Tuesday in Lagos in a statement.

According to him, two adult males were trying to rescue an adult male from drowning in the high tide of the ocean, but unfortunately the two rescuers drowned.

He said;””Emergency responders from the Agency responded to distress calls from the scene of the incidence.

“On arrival at the scene, the rescuing team discovered that the two beach goers had drowned.

”The two men died during a failed rescue attempt of a third person.

“Life guard stationed at the beach said that the victims had ventured beyond the red line,” the statement read in part.”

The permanent secretary did not state if first man, survived or not.

He said that rescue team and paramedics were still at the scene as rescue operations are still ongoing.

The NewsZenith recalls that four secondary school students drowned in similar circumstances in August at a Lagos beach.

The students were among ten who went to the beach to celebrate after completing their final WAEC examination.
