The Acting Executive Chairman,Kogi State Internal Revenue, Service KGIRS,Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe says the Service generates over N17 billion from January 2022 to November,2022, out of the N23 billion tax generation projection for the year ending, representing about 80 per cent.
He made the disclosure on Friday at the Media parley he had with the Journalists in Lokoja and expressed optimism that the amount would scale up to N18 billion or more before the end of the year.
According to Enehe, who has been on the saddle of the Service for the past one year, as the boss,the Service has keyed into E-technology services, to make to make ease, payment of tax to members of the public, anywhere they made be in the world.
“With the new e- technology we have introduced into the collection of tax, you don’t need to come to our office, physically, to pay your tax.
“All the tax payers need doing is for them to make use of our e-tax services to pay their tax in the comfort of their room and receive receipt immediately such payment is made,” he assured.
On how the new technology would get to the rural areas to enable the grassroots pay their tax,KGIRS boss said the officers of the Service had been trained and equipped with devises through which they would assist even the unlettered to pay their tax without stress.
According to him, the new technology which commenced three months ago, has helped the Service to effectively eliminate many tax challenges confronting the Service, such as tax evasion, double taxation and fake tax collectors among others.
He reiterated his call on tax payers to pay their tax to enable the government garner adequate money to embark on people-oriented policies and programmes that would bring the much desired dividends of democracy to them.
Enehe assured tax payers that the Service had various mechanisms to show their tax is being utilised judiciously to improve their welfare in consonance with purpose of governnent to the citizens.
Earlier,the Head of Corporate Communications unit of the Service, Mal.Muhammad Mukhtar, had reeled out the numerous achievements of the Acting Executive Chairman to include, establishment of Tax Appeal Tribunal, introduction of E- TTC,E-Tax, E-filing,E-Tax payment,E-TaxReceipt,E-Portal,E-Payer Registration and Verification among others.
According to Murkthar, the leadership of Enehe has also put on the front burner, the welfare of the staff thorough prompt payment of their salaries and emoluments, coupled with training and retraining down to the lowest staff, to boost their morale and productive.
The Director of Administration of the Service, Alhaji M.A Bello, in his vote if thanks,described the Acting Executive Chairman as “a man of history” who had achieved so much for the Service within one year of his assumption of duty.
Bello,who prayed for the confirmation of Enehe to a substantive position next year, said the KGIRS boss had carried the management and staff of the Serve along in the execution of his programmes and pledged the continued cooperation of the management and staff of the Service to ensure his success.
Our Correspondent reports that highlight of the occasion was the launching of the” Service Charter”, developed to clearly show all the services that KGIRS provides for taxpayers and also to make known to them theirs rights and obligations.
The Charter contains the mission, vision and core values of the Service,taxes and levies payable to it,the Service obligation to tax payers, responsibilities of the staff,tax payers’ rights and administrative structures among others.
Heads of departments and other principal Staff of the Service attended the occasion.
