The “Sit-at-home” order, initiated by the Kogi State Government to guard against the spread of coronavirus to the state began on Saturday with partial compliance by commercial transport operators in Lokoja, the state capital and its environs.
A correspondent of Duaglobalnews, an online publication,who visited some streets in Lokoja reports that many commercial vehicles; such as Kekenapep, Okada as well as taxis were seen plying the popular Ganaja-Gadumo- Murtala Mohammed-Old market-New market and Felete roads.
Few other roads such as the one that passes through former Deputy Governor’s office among were devoid of human and vehicular movement.
Some of the flouting the order diverted their routes from the popular roads to less busy ones such Lord Lugard and Fen junction road to evade police arrest.
Some of the commercial transport operators, who spoke with online medium said while they were not unmindful of the prevalence of COVIF-19 in the country, they were however constrained by the fact that they needed to work to earn a living to keep life going.
Though few commercial outfits opened for business, the Sit-at-home” order was more effective among civil servants, most of whom stayed indoor with their families to clean their environment.
While government locked up the International marketing as part of the measure to check the disease, sellers who said they could not cope with the effect of the order moved their goods to the market, otherwise known as “Pata market.”
They told our correspondent that they were waiting for their March salary.
