Kogi state government says it will commence lockdown on Saturday, to prevent the spread of the pandemic Corona Virus, (COVID19) to the state.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Edward Onoja, disclosed this at a news conference at the Police state headquarters Lokoja.
According to him, there will be no movement of any kind in the state, adding thr people were to stay at home.
Onoja, who is the Chairman, Kogi state government state Squadron Committee against the spread of COVID 19, said only people providing essential services, like pharmaceutical shops, food sellers,among others would be allowed to come out.
He stressed that commercial transporters, such as “Okada”, Tricycle operators and taxi cabs would not be allowed to operate till further notice.
The committee chairman, who also said there would be no public gathering of any nature, urged the people to keep social distances as well.
He, however, said, six entry points to Lokoja, the state capital, would be manned by security personnel who would screen travellers from other parts of the country enrouting the state to various destinations.
Duaglobalnews, an online publication, reports that kogi shares border with with Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara, Anambra, Edo, Nasarawa, Niger and Benue as well as the FCT.
The areas to neamned by security agencies, according to Onoja, include; Nataco junction, Ganaja Junction, Zango, crusher junctions among others.
He advised residents to remain faithful to the government decision and always report any suspected person with high temperatute and fever by calling the following emergency numbers: 07088292249, 08150953486, 0809522703 and 08043402122.
The online medium further reports that kogi has not registered any case of COVIF-19 since it the pandemic disease broke out in Wuhan city in China in December 2019.
