NURTW-TOAN clash claims 1 in kwara

Ilorin

A violent clash between commercial motor drivers and kekenapep operators on Wednesday, in llorin,Kwara state has claimed one life, leaving several other victims with various degrees of injury, Duaglobalnews reports.

The online medium reports that the clash involved members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Tricycle Operators Association of Nigeria (TOAN) over ownership of park in Ilorin, Kwara state.

The incident, which occurred at Offa Garage area of Ilorin, afternoon saw shop owners, commuters and residents of the area running for safety.

During the crisis,the the embattled transporters were said to have freely used dangerous weapons.

The timely intervention of security agencies prevented the fracas from spreading to other parts of the state capital and beyond.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, said the command had commenced investigation into the crisis, adding thi some arrests had been made.

The police image maker advised people to remain calm, be law abiding and go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.
