Lokoja residents embrace 2022 with mixed-feelings, call for ease in hardship

Residents of Lokoja,the Kogi State capital on Saturday, welcomed 2022 with mixed-feelings, prayer while others did so with knockouts and some sent season greetings to friends and relations via various social media platforms such as face, whatsapp among others.

Our Correspondent in Lokoja reports that immediately the clock ticked 12 midnight, knock outs, the popular chorus,”Happy New year and other merry-making expressions rented the air.

In a statement, Mr Danjuma Suleiman,who just completed his National Youth Service Corps service in Zamfara state and looking for jobs, described 2021 as a year that had gone with bitter-sweet memories.

“May this new year bring immense joy to Nigerians. May we reach new heights of success. Happy New Year,” he prayed and congratulated the living for witnessing the event.

Prof.Femi Ajayi from the United States of America, in his new year remarks said,” Happy New Year with God’s abundant blessings. May God crown 2022 with His Grace, Favor and Peace in good health.

Evangelist Caleb Omotayo, a Nigerian based in Sierra Leone but visiting his state,Kwara, to mark the year said in a statement he sent to The Reporters,”But if you returns to me and obey my commands, even if you are exiled to the end of the earth, l will bring you to the place l have choosen to be honored.” Nehemiah 1: 9.

“My Beloved. This is God’s original plan and purpose for your life. By the Mighty hand of God, you will fulfill your glorious destiny.

” Dont be discouraged, angered, or frustrated, when you realize how far you are from where you ought to be.

” God has sent me to you that, it is not over, there is still hope, He will restore the stolen Years of your life. He will take you to the place He has chosen for you. Only trust and obey His command. It is well with you in Jesus Mighty Name. Happy New Year.”

Pastor Rotimi Ambolu noted that the journey from 2021/to 2022, in no doubt,was also hectic with a lot of Ups and Downs.

” To God be the Glory for Great things He has done. The race is not for the swift but of him that gets Mercy from the Lord,*he said.

The cleric prayed God to enable humanity enjoy His Mercy in this Year.

He said to the living,”You have Crossed Over and by His Grace, you will take CHARGE in Jesus name. God will endow you with WISDOM to sail through the New Year.

“May you have a Divine encounter that will give you Net Breaking Testimonies . You have Crossed OVER TO BE IN CHARGE. JUST BELIEVE. THE STORM IS OVER.”

Some other members of the society in the area told the online publication that they went to church to thank almighty God for the opportunity He provided them to survive 2021 and witness 2022 in good health in spite the “good, the bad and the ugly” of 2021.

They, however,appealed to federal government to drop the idea of increasing the price of fuel, as being speculated, in order not to carry over the suffering of the masses from 2021 to 2022.

“The heat of 2021,as exemplified by the high rate of inflation, insecurity amon other worries, are still fresh in mind, even as we move into 2022.

“The three tiers of government should please embark on more people-oriented programmes and policies that will make dividends of democracy have much meaningful impact in the life of the masses of this great country,”Mr Mohammed Lawal,an applicant, told The Reporters in an interview in Lokoja.

He particularly called on the state governments paying salaries of their local government workers in percentage and owing state workers arrears of promotion, to have a rethink in the interest of social justice.

The graduate applicant also urged government to recruit more hands into the public service to reduce the high rate of unemployment and its multiplier effects on the economy.
