The fight against criminals in kogi state registered the desired success on Friday as six suspected kidnappers fell to the net of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Kogi State Command.
Parading the suspects before Journalists in Lokoja,the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Suleiman Marafa, said the suspects were those terrorising inhabitants of Oshokoshoko, Obajana and Akpata Communities along Kabba road in Kogi West Senatorial district of the state.
The Commandant,who disclosed the ages of the suspects were between 15 and 20 and they came from Katsina and Niger states, said their arrest was made possible by the joint effort between his Command and the Hunters Group of Nigeria.
He explained that on receipt of complaints from families of victims, on activities of the criminals, including kidnapping for ransom and the rape of women, security operatives swung into action which led to their arrest from their operational base in the forest.
The Commandant further revealed that suspects abducted one Mrs Rebecca Simon on February 20, 2021 and made her husband to pay N200,000 ransom for her to regain her freedom, adding that another victim, James Peter, was also set free after parting with N230,000 ransom to the suspects.
According to him,items recovered from the suspected include; a locally made pistol, four single bullets proof, two materials believed to be charms, rings, hoods bangles, half bag of sesame and four litres of petroleum product.
He said on interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, adding that they would be charged to the Court after the conclusion of investigations in their case.
The Commandant appealed to the people of the state not in availing security personnel credible and timely information about the activities of criminal elements in the state.
