A fleeing inmate who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kabba, Kogi state, during the recent jail break in the centre and returned to the town to vandalise transformer,has landed in security agencies’ net in what has been described as nemesis in action.
The State Security Adviser, retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, disclosed this at a peace camp organized by Actionaid Nigeria in collaboration with Participation Initiative For Behavioral Change in Development, (PIBCID) in Lokoja on Monday.
“The fleeing inmate, who was caught in Kabba vandalizing transformer is back to the detention centre. The place is better fortified now. He went to vandalize AEDC transformer alongside one other suspect and was arrested.
“We discovered that a lot of transformer is being vandalized around Kabba area. During our security meeting, we mounted surveillance and we recorded success yesterday.
“It has shown that it is in the blood.This criminal will not change.
“He was among the inmates that ran out of our correctional centre. He went back to the society to commit more crimes. Again, he has met his waterloo,” Omodara explained.
The online publication recalls that during the jail break,the gunmen freed over 200 prisoners and killed some security personnel on guard.
The State Security Adviser,who did not reveal the identity of the suspect, said he was arrested after caught vandalizing transformer belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company,(AEDC) on Sunday.
Omodara said that with the arrest of the fleeing inmate turn suspected vandal, the number of rearrested inmates and back to the Centre had risen to 132.
According to Omodara, the focus of the present administration in the state in providing adequate security for the people of the state would not change.
“Immediately we noticed little changes and attacks in the last three weeks, we doubled our efforts, rejigged our security architecture, and today,I can assure you that we are getting it right again.
“We are getting it right because the focus has been is to ensure that Kogi is safe. Security is work in progress and we cannot say we have finished with it,”he said.
The State Security Adviser, however, called on the judiciary to ensure speedy trial of all the suspects in custody, adding, “if we have speedy trial of these inmates,we would not have large number of them being sent out of Custodial Centre” he added.
