The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps( NYSC), Brig,-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has warned Corps members posted to Niger state to adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines, to guard against exposing the camp to COVID-19 infection.
He gave the warning at the official swearing-in/oath taking at the Permanent orientation camp in Paiko.
Shaibu was represented at the low key occasion by The Niger State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Funmilayo Ajayi.
Our Correspondent reports that 974 2021 Batch B, Stream 2 Corps members including, 519 male and 455 female deployed to the state were sworn-in for the one year mandatory National Youth Service.
“You must adhere to COVID-19 protocols, including insistence on testing prospective Corps members, Course officials and visitors for the virus before admission into the Camp. enforcement of physical distancing and wearing of face masks and provision of hand washing points at strategic locations”.
“I call on the Camp community to ensure strict compliance with all prevention protocols throughout the duration of Orientation period.
” I also encourage you to present yourselves for the COVID-19 vaccination whenever it is made available, in or out of the Camp,” he further warned.
The director-general reminded the Corps members the need to exhibit high level of discipline by complying strictly with all Camp rules and regulations, and be obedient to course officials, to avoid appropriate sanctions in line with the provisions of the NYSC bye-laws.
He reminded the Corps members that the the oath of allegiance they took “is solemn” and called them to always find time to meditate over its spirit and letters, and be guided by same throughout the service year and beyond.
Brig,-Gen. Shuaibu noted that the NYSC oath had influenced the guiding principles of many patriotic Nigerians, years after passing through the National Service, hence the need for the Corps members to familiarize themselves with the content of the NYSC Act and the NYSC bye-laws”.
The DG further urged them to avail themselves of the opportunities provided by the federal government’s training programmes, to become employers of labour and not job seekers after service, adding that the increasing rate of graduate unemployment in the country had become a great concern to government.
The Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Aisha Bwari, represented by Hon. Justice Maimuna Aminu Abubakar,administered the Oath of allegiance on the corps members in the presence of Mrs. Bolade Omolayo Loto, the Director, North-Central office of the scheme.
