The unabated security situation in Niger state seems getting out of hand as another District Head of the ancient city, Zungeru in Wushishi Local Government Area of the state (Madakin Zungeru), Mallam Mustapha Madaki and his two wives were in the early hours of Sunday abducted by gunmen suspected to be armed bandits.
The Reporters,an online news publication gathered that the gunmen, numbering about 20, had stormed the ancient town at about 1.30 a.m and headed straight to the residence of the community leader whose house is located in the heart of the town.
During the operation, said to have lasted for about 30 minutes, Madakin Zungeru, on noticing the presence of the invaders, hid himself inside the room of one of his wives, Habiba, where he was eventually captured and led away into the bush with his two wives.
The online publication further learnt that the gunmen, said to have stormed Zungeru town in convoy parked their motorcycles about 500 metres away from their theatre of operation before marching to the house of their target on foot, unchallenged.
The Chinese firm, Messrs CNEEC-Sino hydro handling the 700 Megawatt Zungeru hydro dam has closed shops while all the workers, while the expatriates hurriedly left the site when the rumour about armed bandits’ invasion filtered into the town.
As at the time of this report, the abductors are yet to establish contact with the relations of the traditional ruler while the mobile phone numbers of the traditional ruler and those of his two wives indicated ‘switched off’when called.
The latest abduction in Niger state is coming exactly one week after 163 pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamic (islamiyya) school in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of the state were kidnapped by armed bandits who are now demanding for N200 million ransom or else they will start killing them.
All the expatriates working at site were said to have been evacuated on Saturday morning and escorted out of the state under heavy security before the Sunday morning abduction of the Community’s traditional ruler.

Efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police command in the state, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, to confirm the incident proved abortive as at the time of this report.
