A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party,(PDP) and former acting Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje has called for dialogue among various groups, individuals, government and security agencies on how best to solve the security challenges facing the nation.
The PDP chieftain who is the Founder and financier of Kawu Baraje Center for Arabic and Islamic Studies Gerewu, made the call in a statement marking his 69th birthday in Ilorin.
He lamentedand killing of innocent citizens, a development he noted “is becoming too worrisome, alarming and getting out of the control of the nation’s security outfits.”
The PDP chieftain, who is the Founder and financier of Kawu Baraje Center for Arabic and Islamic studies,Ilorin identified insecurity as” the most difficult, most concerned and most retrogressive of the problems the country is facing.”
The senior citizen, therefore, urged Nigerians, particularly youths to be security conscious about their environment and report strange people as well as suspicious objects around them to the appropriate authorities.
“I wish to appreciate all Nigerians for their resilience, perseverance and Never “Say Die attitude ” at this very difficult times in Nigeria.
” Everybody is aware and are now feeling the punches of the difficult times.
“I therefore say that the most difficult and most depressing of the entire situation is the insecurity in the country.
“I want to also enjoin Nigerians to go back to their culture of working together with our neighbours in ensuring that our environment is safe.
“This is the period that we must be at alert, live up to our responsibilities and be our brother’s keeper, “he said.
On the establishment of Amotekun by the South-West governors, Alhaji Baraje described the development as appropriate, saying that it would complement the efforts of security agencies in curbing insecurity in the country.
Baraje,who noted that similar outfits had been in operations in other regions,called for dialogue over their mode of operations and resolve the grey areas with the Federal Government.
He commended Inspector General of Police over his position on Amotekun and described him as “an educated police officer.”
He charged the legislature whom he described as the eye, the brain and the conscience of the people to insist on good governance.
The chieftain also called on the judiciary to deliver justice to the masses.
Speaking on the 2023 general elections in the country, the PDP chieftain said the party was intact and preparing for the elections and urged its leaders and supporters to remain focused and more united.
He said unity in PDP became imperative now that the electorate had realized the difference between APC administration and that of the PDP.
Commenting on the committee set up to resolve the issue of Ilearugbo, he said the idea was a welcome development, stressing that Ilorin Emirate is known for peace and coexistence among families and individuals.
