The Governor of Niger state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has expressed confidence that the federal government and security agencies would act swiftly to ending the spate of security challenges that have confined hundreds of Nigerlites to becoming refugees in their own state.
Governor Bello expressed the optimism when he played host to the new GOC,1 Mechanized Division, Nigerian Army, Major-General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi, in his office in Minna.
He also expressed the hope that the effrontery of the armed bandits that had made life unbearable for the people in the state would soon be a thing of the past
“We are impressed with the new development and the response from the federal government in addressing security challenges bedevilling Niger state. It is a joint effort though, the state government will do its part and the federal government will do its part also, “he said.
On the new GOC, Bello said, “The new GOC and I have met one-on-one and discussed some vital areas and he has assured me that they will do whatever they can to put the situation under control.”
Governor Bello, who further pointed out that the local security outfits, especially the vigilante groups were overstretched added, “We are aware of their challenges. They are overwhelmed and overstretched, I also discussed their issue with the GOC.”
Bello assured that the GOC, by records, had better understanding of the security situation in Niger state, adding that in no distant time, the problem of insecurity bedevilling the state would soon be put under control.
Speaking with journalists shortly after his courtesy visit to the governor, Ali-Keffi assured that the situation was not beyond what the Nigerian Military could handle, adding that they “will do what is required to put the situation under control.”
