The Police Command Kogi State has dismissed a viral social media alert alleging an impending bandit attack in Kogi East, describing it as false, unverifiable, and capable of causing unnecessary panic.
In a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja, Commissioner of Police in the state,CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, said the Command was fully aware of the circulating claims but confirmed that no credible intelligence supports the reported threat.
To reassure residents and strengthen public safety, the Commissioner ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism operatives, Quick Response teams, and intelligence personnel to strategic locations across the state.
Additional security assets have also been mobilised to monitor and respond swiftly to any unforeseen developments, according to him.
CP Kankarofi urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and verify information through official channels before sharing, emphasising that false alarms can create avoidable tension.
He appealed for public cooperation, stressing that security remains a shared responsibility between citizens and law enforcement agencies.

The commissioner’s statement was signed by CSP William Ovye Aya, Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Police Command and made a copy available to The Reporters on Tuesday in Lokoja.
