NAFOWA’s 21st President Assumes Office; Pledges To Champion Widows’ Welfare

The new President of Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) has Pledged to champion widows welfare on assumption of office as the 21st National President.

The Wife of the new Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Mrs. Ngozi Aneke, took over from her predecessor, Dr. Rakiya Abubakar, at a formal handing-over ceremony at the association’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Mrs. Ngozi Aneke expressed “profound honour and a deep sense of duty” upon assuming the role, while commending the outgoing leadership for its “unwavering dedication and selfless service,” which she said laid “a solid foundation of unity and purpose.

Outlining her administration’s priorities, the new NAFOWA President pledged to focus on improving the welfare of military widows, whom she described as “heroines of quiet endurance.”

“We will work hand in hand with government institutions, community organizations and the private sector to develop meaningful programmes that would touch lives of widows.

According to her, her tenure will also focus on education, healthcare, economic empowerment and social support, all designed to uplift and dignify the lives of widows of fallen Air force officers.

Mrs. Ngozi Aneke further assured NAFOWA members of an all-inclusive leadership through an open-door policy, stressing that “every voice, every idea, and every concern matters.”

In her valedictory speech, the outgoing President, Dr. Rakiya Abubakar, reflected on her 27-month tenure, describing it as a period of “tremendous growth, remarkable achievements and unmatched support.”

She highlighted milestones in infrastructure and welfare, which she said strengthened NAFOWA’s impact across Air Force communities.

The event, which was attended by senior NAFOWA members and dignitaries, marked a symbolic transition of leadership anchored on continuity, compassion and service.

Our Correspondent reports that the highlights of the event was a colourful parade and the symbolic lowering and hoisting of the NAFOWA flag, a gesture signifying a seamless transfer of leadership and the dawn of a new chapter for the association.
