By Dada Ahmed.

The long wait of over 15 years for pensioners under Nigeria’s Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), to claim their arrears of allowances, may soon be over, as their National Chairman, Comrade Sylva Nwaiwu, has assured them that the payment of their entitlements will begin shortly.

Nwaiwu, in a message of reassurance to members on Friday, said all arrangements for the release of funds for the payment had been concluded, expressing confidence that pensioners would begin to receive credit alerts in earnest.

He described the development as an answered prayer for thousands of CPS pensioners who had endured years of waiting.

“My brothers and sisters, may I appreciate you all for your trust and belief in the union leadership. After my latest update, our God has finally answered our prayers. We are no longer hoping but expecting alerts, as all is now set to commence the payments of our entitlements in earnest. To our God alone be all the glory,”Nwaiwu said.

The national chairman, however did not pin down the specific date the payment will begin.

Our correspondent reports that the union leader’s statement comes after months of follow-ups and engagements with relevant government agencies to ensure that the disbursement of accrued pension arrears, owed to retirees under the CPS,become a reality.
