President Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, sacking General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, along with other Service Chiefs.
The development was announced on Friday in a statement issued by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication in Abuja.
According to him, General Olufemi Oluyede, who previously served as Chief of Army Staff, has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
Major-General W. Shaibu now takes over as Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes office as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas has been named the new Chief of Naval Staff.
However, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
The statement read in part:
“President Bola Tinubu has made changes in the hierarchy of the Service Chiefs in furtherance of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the national security architecture.”
“The President expresses profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership.”
President Tinubu charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.
All appointments take immediate effect, according to the presidential aide.
