The newly elected Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Mrs. Salome Fatima Nnawo Ndakotsu, has expressed strong confidence that the party will reclaim the governorship seat from the ruling the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Mrs. Ndakotsu, a former Commissioner during the administration of Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, stated this while speaking with journalists shortly after her emergence as the PDP Women Leader in Niger State.
She said the PDP, with its track record of performance in Niger State and renewed efforts by the new state executive, is steadily regaining strength and momentum to return to power, not only in the state but also at the national level.
“The party is committed to taking over power, not only here in Niger State but across Nigeria. A lot of good strategies have been put in place and will gradually unfold as the political landscape begins to take shape,” she said.
On the mobilization of women ahead of the 2027 elections, Mrs. Ndakotsu stressed the importance of grassroots enlightenment, particularly for rural women, on their rights and the power of their votes.
“For many uninformed women in rural areas, awareness of their rights, privileges, and the importance of the ballot paper in determining their future will be a game-changer.
The number of votes from women alone can determine the political future of this country,” she emphasized.
Pledging to deploy her political experience to intensify sensitization and mobilization once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declares campaigns open, the former Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Environment expressed optimism that the PDP would bounce back stronger in 2027.
Mrs. Ndakotsu also joined other Nigerians in calling for legislation to reserve more elective seats for women at the national, state, and local government levels, noting that such a move would enhance women’s participation in governance and leadership.
Reflecting on her political journey, she recalled venturing into politics in 1996/97 when she contested and won a seat in the Niger State House of Assembly, though the House was never inaugurated. She later became the first Treasurer of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Niger State,the team that led the party to victory in the 1999 elections.
