The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has announced plans to hold a press conference to protest the Federal Government’s failure to fulfill financial commitments to retirees.
According to a statement signed by Comrade Mukaila Ogunbote, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), NIPOST Lagos branch, and National Chairman of the coalition, the briefing will take place on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Pension Secretariat, 2nd Floor, General Post Office (GPO), Marina, Lagos Island, by 10 a.m.
The coalition expressed concern that the Federal Government has not pay them agreed ₦32,000 pension increment and ₦25,000 palliative since 2023, alleging the neglect in settling 108 months of arrears owed to pensioners across the country.
Ogunbote said the press conference would provide a platform to highlight the plight of pensioners, many of whom have been left vulnerable due to the prolonged delay in payments.
He urged the media to give the event wide coverage, stressing that retirees deserve better treatment after years of service to the nation.
