CPS Retirees Near Payment of Long-Awaited Allowances as DMO Advances Payment Process

Retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) are now closer than ever to receiving their long-awaited allowances, as the payment process has reached the Debt Management Office (DMO).

The National Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS), Mr. Sylva Nwaiwu, disclosed this while updating members on the ₦758 billion approved for CPS retirees and other related issues.

He said: “We are on the right track at the DMO, and we assure you that we are closer to payment day than ever before.”

Mr. Nwaiwu expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Federal Executive Council members for their commitment to the welfare of retirees.

“We owe this government, under the leadership of President Tinubu, a lot of thanks, as well as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and the Honourable Minister of Finance,that Godly man.

“Everything he told us on the day of our protest has come to pass. “We are grateful to all these Nigerians whom God has decided to use to wipe away our tears at this time,” he said.

The NUPCPS national chairman urged members to remain patient, assuring them that payment will be made “very soon” and that all CPS retirees will receive their allowances in full.

Quoting media reports, Mr. Nwaiwu noted that both the President and the Director-General of PENCOM are eager to ensure that payments are implemented as quickly as possible.

He also revealed that the union’s growing success has attracted more CPS retirees who wish to join.

To accommodate them, the union has set August 14 and 15, 2025, for a membership registration drive, with state branches free to extend the dates if necessary,he adding
Online registration centres across the country will also be available.

Speaking on the union’s history, Mr. Nwaiwu recalled that NUPCPS was officially inaugurated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on February 27, 2017,” with the approval and consent of the then Minister of Labour and Employment,” adding that the inauguration took place publicly at the Labour House in Abuja.

According to him, the DMO officers are working on the process of paying the allowances and comm ended for their efforts so far in that regard.

“Moreover,we owe this government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with a lot of thanks with his Federal Executive Council members.

“The same to the Secretary to Government of the Federation, that office has been wonderful, the Office of Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and that of the office of the Honorable Minister of Finance, that Godly man, that everything he told us on the day of our protest has to pass.

“We are grateful to all these crops of Nigerians that the Almighty God has in decided to use to wipe away our tears at this time.

He urged members to exercise patient, assuring that them the payment will be a ready “very soon,” assuring that all CPS retirees will get their allowances paid.

Citing media reports,Mr. Nwaiwu noted that the president and the Director General of PENCOM are eager to see that this payment is implemented as early as possible.

He expressed delight that because of the success story of the union,a number of CPS retirees’ want to join the union as members, adding that they must be given the opportunity to do so by creating platform for them to achieve their mission.

The national chairman said that the union has selected August 14 and 15,2025 to do so, adding that the state branches of the unioon are at the liberty to extend that dates,if they are not able to accomplish the exercise, including the online registration centres in the country.

Commenting on the statue of NUPCPS, the national chairman said it the union was officially inaugurated by the Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC on the 27th of February 2017,”with the approval and consent of the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment of that time.”

According to him,the inauguration was done, publicly at the Labour House,Abuja.
