The Kogi State Police Command has recovered the lifeless body of a Lokoja-based photojournalist, Mr. Ayobami Aiyepeku, who was allegedly murdered by his friend, an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Command , SP William Aya, confirmed the development to journalists in Lokoja.

He said an investigation had been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and to bring all perpetrators to justice.

According to reports, Ayobami was allegedly killed on Tuesday evening around 8:30 p.m. in Lokoja by his friend and colleague, Jacob Adebayo Pelumi, a serving correctional officer.

Pelumi, who reportedly fled the crime scene, was later found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel within Lokoja.

Security operatives have since sealed off the hotel, pending the outcome of investigations. While some sources suggest suicide, others have raised doubts about the true cause of his death.

The tragic incident has thrown the Aiyepeku family and the local media community into mourning.

In a tearful plea, the victim’s father, Chief James Aiyepeku, called on the Kogi State Government, the Federal Government, the Inspector-General of Police, and relevant security agencies to ensure justice is served.

“My son, Ayobami, was a gentle and hardworking young man. “He never quarreled with anyone. I appeal to the authorities to uncover the truth behind his death and ensure those responsible are held accountable,” the grieving father said.
