The Fulani Civilian Joint Taskforce (CJTF), Obajana Command, under Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and banditry arresting four suspected kidnappers operating within Obajana, Oyo, and surrounding communities.
The Commander of the CJTF in Obajana, Mallam Ibrahim Abubakar, confirmed that the suspects were linked to a spate of kidnappings along the Obajana-Oyo axis in Oworoland, disclosing that the arrests followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering by the taskforce.
In a video-recorded confession, the suspects admitted to various roles in the criminal network. While some were directly involved in the abductions, others acted as informants, identifying potential victims in the community.
One of the suspects also confessed to supplying food and logistics to kidnappers in their forest camps.
The suspects, identified as Muazu Sale, Hasheemu Musa, Bala Muazu, and Aliyu Zuberi,who are said to be residents of Oyo and its environs,have been handed over to the Police Quick Response Unit in Lokoja for further investigation and prosecution.
Mallam Abubakar praised the Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, for his continued support of the CJTF’s operations and reiterated the taskforce’s commitment to rooting out criminal elements, including those tarnishing the image of the Fulani community.
“We will not allow a few bad eggs to destroy the peace and unity of our land. The Fulani CJTF is fully committed to protecting lives and property in collaboration with security agencies,” he stated.
Some concerned members of the public in Lokoja who spoke with our correspondent on the arrest described it as marking a significant step in local efforts to combat insecurity in Kogi State and highlights the growing role of community-based security initiatives in supporting formal law enforcement.
