…Onuoha Ukeh emerges General Secretary, new executive to serve two-year term
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has elected a new executive committee to steer the affairs of the organisation for the next two years, with Mr. Eze Anaba, Editor of Vanguard newspaper, re-elected unopposed as President.
The election was held during the Guild’s Biennial National Convention on Friday, June 28, 2025, at the International Conference Centre in Enugu, and was attended by over 400 editors from across the country.
Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, Managing Director of The Sun newspaper, was elected General Secretary after defeating Mr. Wole Sogunle of the News Agency of Nigeria and Dr. Qasim Akinreti of Voice of Nigeria.
Dr. Abu Sabastine Mohammed of Nigerian Standard, Jos, was elected Deputy President with 175 votes, defeating Mohammed Sanusi Jubrin, who garnered 110 votes.

The convention was chaired by Dr. John Momoh (OON, NPOM), Chairman of Channels Media Group, who delivered the keynote address on the theme: “Building a Secure and Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion and the Media.”
Dr. Momoh challenged editors to move beyond reporting and embrace their responsibility as nation-builders.
He emphasized the media’s role in fostering national unity, inclusive development, and authentic storytelling.
“There can be no security without justice, no unity without fairness, and no progress without inclusion,” Momoh stated.
He paid tribute to Enugu’s rich journalistic history, referencing icons such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, M.C.K. Ajuluchukwu, and Uche Chukwumerije, and highlighted the courage of the anonymous voices of Radio Biafra during the civil war.
Momoh called on editors to amplify marginalised voices, uphold ethical journalism, and mentor the next generation with courage and integrity.
“Inclusion is not about ticking boxes; it’s about real representation,” he said. “Editors must become the builders of our national conscience.”
The convention was graced by prominent figures, including Chief Segun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, former Chairman of the NDDC; and Mr. Femi Adesina, former presidential spokesperson.
