,,,, Reaffirms Nasarawa’s Commitment to Peace

By Correspondent in Lafia.
The Nasarawa State Government has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that it is responsible for the recent killings of Tiv communities over ancestral land disputes.

The denial was issued by Comrade Emmanuel Innocent Akwe, the Personal Assistant on Media to Governor Abdullahi Sule, who described the claims as false, baseless, and deliberately misleading.

In a statement on behalf of the governor, Akwe emphasized that the administration of Governor Sule remains firmly committed to peace, security, and peaceful coexistence among all communities in the state.

He stressed that the governor has consistently championed collaboration with neighboring Benue State to address common security challenges and ensure the protection of lives and property.

“Governor Sule has always prioritized cooperation with Benue State to promote peace and confront security threats that affect both states.

He has not only shown solidarity with the people of Benue in their time of grief but has also led joint security efforts aimed at restoring calm and stability in the region,” Akwe stated.

The media aide warned individuals peddling accusations against the person of the governor and the Nasarawa State Government to desist from spreading what he termed “damaging misinformation,” adding that legal action may be pursued against those who continue to make such unfounded claims.

Despite these reassurances, some leaders within the Tiv community have accused the Sule-led administration of masterminding a covert operation aimed at displacing Tiv people from their ancestral lands.

They allege that under the pretext of agricultural development, entire villages have been demolished, traditional institutions suppressed, and thousands forced to flee their homes,an act they describe as ethnic cleansing.

Reacting to these allegations, Akwe maintained that the government has never, at any time, sanctioned violence against any ethnic group in the state. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to fairness, justice, and peaceful coexistence, urging the public to disregard what he called politically motivated narratives intended to sow discord.

“The governor’s record in promoting unity and peace among the diverse ethnic groups in Nasarawa is clear. Attempts to drag his name into baseless allegations of violence are not only mischievous but also aimed at derailing the progress we have made in securing the state,” he said.
