The Kogi State Government has reiterated its strong commitment to confronting and neutralising criminal elements threatening the peace and security of the state, particularly in parts of Yagba land.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, gave the assurance on Saturday in Lokoja while addressing journalists on the government’s response to recent security concerns in the state.
“This government is not paying lip service to security. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is fully committed to protecting lives and property. Kogi is not under siege, and it will not be,” Fanwo declared.
Fanwo, acknowledged reports of rising security concerns, especially in Yagba West, and alleged threats to churches in Yagba East, stressed that the state is actively managing the situation with caution and precision to avoid escalation.
“We are walking a fine line between urgency and strategic restraint. Our interventions are silent, guided, and highly targeted,” he said.
The commissioner revealed that intelligence reports had identified hideouts of criminal elements, including kidnappers operating across state boundaries but assured that security operations were being carefully executed to avoid civilian casualties.
“These criminals are using human shields,innocent Nigerians abducted from Kogi and neighbouring states. Our mission is clear: rescue victims, dismantle their networks, and restore normalcy,” he explained.
While emphasizing that there had been no breakdown of law and order in any part of the state, the commissioner said the Ododo administration has intensified collaboration with national security agencies to eliminate all threats.
He praised the efforts of local security groups, particularly the Okun hunters and community based vigilance outfits, for their continued support in maintaining grassroots surveillance and order.
“The role of local intelligence and vigilance cannot be overstated. Residents must also step up by reporting suspicious activities. It’s a collective fight,” Fanwo added.
He described the tactics of the criminals as psychological warfare meant to instill fear and confusion,and urged the media and the public not to play into their hands.
Fanwo affirmed the government’s determination to stay ahead of the criminals: “Yes, there have been isolated breaches, but we are on their trail. We’ve taken the battle to their doorstep and we will win.”
He called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and united, and to support the government’s efforts with credible information to help crush the cowardly elements attempting to disrupt peace in the state.
