The Coordinator of the Kogi State Social Investment Programme Agency (KOSSIPA), Hajiya Aishat Oyiza Omade, has finally appeared before the Kogi State House of Assembly.

Speaking with journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, who confirmed Omade’s compliabce with the Assembly’s mandate, emphasized that public office holders must always operate within the bounds of the law.

“We won’t allow political office holders to ridicule the Kogi Assembly as an institution. The present lawmakers will not fold their arms and allow any political office holder or individual to ridicule the chambers,” the Speaker stressed.

He explained that the Assembly’s earlier pronouncement on the matter achieved its intended objective.

He said that any officer, including political office holders, irrespective of the office they occupy in Kogi State, can be invited by the Assembly, pointing out that the position they hold is guided by rules, which must be obeyed.

Giving insights into the threat of warrant on Omade earlier, the speaker disclosed that “she has now appeared before us, and we have admonished her to always act in accordance with the law.”

“She cannot be bigger than the committee. What we have achieved is to allow the committee to take charge of what they want her to do.

“We didn’t give her much attention, that’s why, out of magnanimity the House referred her back to the committee she had earlier failed to honour, its invitation,”he said.

The Speaker, however ,clarified that there was no petition or known infraction against the KOSSIP boss.

“Let it be on record that there is no petition against her or any known wrongdoing committed before now,” he said.

He explained that her appearance before the full House was not initially warranted.

“She was not even qualified to appear before all of us. It must be a serious issue before such can happen.

“The report we received from the committee indicated that she was unavailable after several invitations. That report was brought to the House, and the lawmakers had to come together to protect the integrity of the committee by compelling her to appear,” he added.
