The Guild of Interfaith Media Practitioners (GIMP) has appointed the Publisher of The Reporters, an online news publication, Mr. Dada Ahmed, as its Editorial Advisor.
The GIMP Chairman, Abdulkarim Abdulmalik, conveyed the message in a text message he sent to Ahmed in Lokoja from Abuja on Wednesday.
GIMP chairman described Ahmed as a seasoned journalist and former Assistant Editor-in-Chief at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ahmed began his journalism career with Radio Nigeria in 1984, worked with The Herald newspaper,Courier newspaper in Ilorin, Kwara State, and eventually joined NAN, where he rose through the ranks and retired in 2020.
He is also a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ among other bodies.
He subsequently established The Reporters, an online publication.
The management of the Guild said the organization is committed to fostering tolerance, harmony, and acceptance of religious diversity across the globe.
According to the management, the organization is aimed to support media practitioners in reporting on religious matters to promote interfaith dialogue and understanding.
According to the organization, its objectives include building a professional network of journalists and columnists covering religion, deepening their understanding of religious pluralism, and encouraging balanced and respectful reporting.
“Religious dialogue is not a platform for asserting the superiority of one faith over another, nor is it for proselytizing.
“Rather, it is a means of fostering mutual understanding, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence in a multicultural society like Nigeria,”the statement reads.
GIMP emphasized the role of journalists in promoting interfaith dialogue as a vital aspect of social responsibility and good journalism.
The organization also pledged to work with governmental and non-governmental bodies to advance religious tolerance through both traditional and social media platforms.
