Governor Ododo Calls for Unity at Colorful Ovia Osese Festival in Ogori

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has called on the people of Ogori in Ogori Magongo Local Government Area of the state,to embrace peace and unity as a means of strengthening community bonds and driving progress.

Speaking on Saturday as the Special Guest of Honour at the 2025 Ovia Osese Festival in Ogori, the governor highlighted the significance of communal gatherings like the festival in promoting development and preserving cultural identity.

“It is with great joy and deep appreciation that I stand before you today at the Ovia Osese Festival, here in the culturally rich Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area.

“This celebration is not just about culture; it’s about identity and the sacred bond that ties generations together. The Ovia Osese Festival stands as one of the most historic and symbolic cultural celebrations in our state,”he said.

Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding Kogi’s cultural legacy and enhancing the welfare of its people.

He expressed delight at the vibrant showcase of Ogori’s cultural heritage, describing the event as a testament to the people’s pride and dedication to community development

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Acharu Okpanachi, emphasized the importance of culture in fostering unity, peace, and economic growth.

“The Ovia Osese Festival has not only become a hallmark of Ogori’s cultural pride but also a major tourist attraction,” she noted.

She thanked Governor Ododo for his unwavering support for the festival and for championing cultural diversity across the state.

Our correspondent reports that the Ovia Osese Festival featured a rich display of Ogori traditions, drawing massive crowds.

He assured that his administration remains unwavering in its resolve to promote equity, safeguard the rights of women and girls, and create an inclusive future for all citizens of Kogi State.

Governor Ododo called on tourists, cultural enthusiasts, and development partners to support the festival, adding that Kogi State is open for tourism, investment and promotion of cultural exchanges.

The event include traditional music, dances, and various cultural performances, offering a vibrant window into the customs of the Ogori people.

The celebration stands as a vivid expression of joy, unity, and cultural vibrancy,underscoring the power of cultural events to promote cohesion and stimulate local development.

According to history,the festival, which began in 1870s,represents a rite of passage for young girls entering womanhood and emphasizes values such as chastity, purity, and moral upbringing.
