By correspondent in Lokoja.

A Lokoja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday adjourned the trial of two boat operators, Musa Dangana and Yakubu Dangana, accused of negligence in connection with a boat accident that killed 19 out of 60 passengers on November 29, 2024.

The defendants, residents of Lokoja, are charged with conspiracy and negligence for allegedly operating a commercial wooden boat without life jackets and ignoring weather warnings during a night journey from Icupa (Kogi) to Kacha Market (Niger State).

Both men pleaded not guilty. The prosecution, led by Mr. Ubana Ibi, informed the court that the investigation had been concluded and requested a date to begin trial.

The defense counsel, Mr. Zakari Useni, raised concerns about not yet receiving the necessary case materials.

The Chief Magistrate, Abdullahi Musa-Mopa, ordered the prosecution to provide all relevant documents to the defense and adjourned the case until May 26 for hearing.
