The 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Lokoja, Kogi State, has reaffirmed its commitment to community development by restoring a long-abandoned borehole in the Lokongoma community of Lokoja.
Lokongoma, which hosts the 12 Brigade Commanders’ Guest House, had endured years of water scarcity due to the non-functional borehole,once a vital source of clean water for residents.
Our correspondent reports that under the leadership of Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, the brigade undertook the rehabilitation of the borehole, bringing much-needed relief to the community.
The successful resuscitation project was officially handed over to the residents on April 14, 2025.
Representing the Commander at the handover ceremony, the Cantonment Maintenance Officer, Major Nathaniel Yakubu, said the initiative is part of the Nigerian Army’s broader civil-military cooperation efforts aimed at enhancing the well-being of host communities.
“This intervention is expected to ease the daily burden of the people and foster stronger ties between the military and the host community,” he noted.
The community leader, Chief Okpanachi Nicholas, expressed deep appreciation for the military’s gesture, describing it as both timely and impactful.
“This project has brought a lasting solution to one of our major challenges. It reflects the positive impact of the military’s community support initiatives,” he stated.
According to him,the restored borehole stands as a testament to the Nigerian Army’s resolve to support its host communities and promote peaceful coexistence through meaningful outreach.
